Sometimes in the midst of my ministry, moments stand out that stay with me. And when they do I like to contemplate on them, what in this moment made it so noteworthy, all ministry is noteworthy, but there was something about this moment that was different from others. He was a elderly gentlemen, having lived for many years, frail now, contemplating the end of his days, but yet not knowing when that would be, and so it is a time of waiting and wondering. And although he said he could no longer remember, in a few short moments, it seems a whole lifetime is shared, and you feel gifted to have been privileged to share this moment. Not only in the reflection of life, but in the prayer that was offered, with hands folded tightly in prayer above the covers and head bowed low, he begins to pray “Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name…”, no one joins in, because it is a pure moment of grace, God has graced us with his presence and you know it.
Moments later the gentlemen asks, do you know that prayer we said in our child hood, and you can’t imagine what it might be, couldn’t possibly be the one you knew, your ages are too far apart, but then he begins, “Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep,..” and you realize there is not such a difference after all, and you join in because it was the prayer of your childhood too. Grace filled moments, it was a Holy Day!! Let us Pray: “Our Father who art in heaven…..
